Jefferson Township Knox Box Program

Jefferson Township Fire & EMS is proud to offer a Knox Box Program for our community. This program allows residents and business owners to securely store property keys in a heavy-duty, tamper-resistant box installed on their building. It ensures first responders can quickly and safely access your property during an emergency—without causing damage.

How Does a Knox Box Work?

It’s simple:

  1. The fire department is dispatched to your property for an alarm or fire emergency.
  2. A firefighter uses a secure code to access the master key stored in a controlled device.
  3. The firefighter uses that key to open your property’s Knox Box and retrieve the keys inside.
  4. They can then access your home or business without breaking doors or windows, saving time and preventing damage.

Note: In the event of a medical emergency where the patient cannot reach the door, EMS may request fire personnel to assist with entry using the Knox Box.

Who Should Consider a Knox Box?

The Knox Home Box is ideal for:

  • Individuals who may have difficulty reaching the door in an emergency
  • Residents with disabilities or limited mobility
  • Any homeowner who wants to provide first responders with secure, emergency access

Property owners with gates can also utilize gate key switches, padlocks, and other Knox access solutions.

For commercial properties, there are additional options such as:

  • Commercial Knox Boxes
  • Elevator boxes
  • Document boxes (to securely store site plans, emergency contact info, etc.)
