We are pleased to announce a temporary reduction in property taxes, made possible through revenue generated by the Joint Economic Development District (JEDD). This reduction will apply to the EMS Levy, which will decrease from 5 mills to 2.5 mills for the years 2026 and 2027.
As your Trustees, our long-term objective is to reduce—and potentially eliminate—local levies by replacing those funds with JEDD tax revenue. The JEDD tax is a 2% income tax collected from employees working at the McKesson, Honda, and Amazon sites within the district.
To provide context, property taxes are distributed among several entities:
• Jefferson Township receives approximately 14%
• Local schools receive 64%
• Fayette County receives 15%
• The remaining portion supports Joint Vocational Schools
Although the Township receives the smallest share of property tax revenue, we believe this reduction will help alleviate the impact of recent increases and demonstrate our commitment to responsible fiscal stewardship.
We remain dedicated to investing in areas that directly benefit our residents. Increased industrial activity has placed additional strain on our roadways, and we are actively allocating JEDD funds toward expanded paving and repairs to meet rising demand. We continue to evaluate how best to utilize these resources for maximum community impact.
We are proud to serve Jefferson Township and remain committed to enhancing the quality of life for all residents—today and for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Jeff Hoppes
